CLUB OLYMPIA JUDO PLAYERS RANKED TOP IN THE NATION

Members from the Club Olympia judo team competed in a national and an international tournament this summer with their results earning them top ranking in the United States.
Four Club Olympia judo players are now ranked in the top six competitors on the point roster in the United States in their respective divisions.

The judo team first traveled to Irvine, California to compete in the US Junior National judo championships. Cody Kollmann finished third in the boys -44kg 13-14 year old division, ranking him at sixth in the nation.

The second tournament, 2010 U.S. Junior Open was held in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. With 32 countries and the United States represented, three students placed in the top four. Grant Johnson had the highest finish winning the silver medal in the young men’s -73 kg 15-16 year old division. This ranks him as one of the top three players in the nation. Hunter Kollmann won third place and the bronze medal ranking him fourth in the boys -43kg 9-10 year old division. Hannah Wright finished fourth in the young women’s 17-20 year old -52kg division, earning her the sixth ranking in the United States. Spencer Depies, 2009 national champion also competed fairing well in a new division.

“This is a remarkable accomplishment coming from a small city in Wisconsin,” stated Lynn Roethke, the club’s coach and Olympic silver medalist in judo. “We are competing head to head with the strongest players in the United States, and because of our results we are now among them.”
